A confirmed case of coronavirus has now been diagnosed on the Palouse in Whitman County. It’s the first confirmed case of coronavirus locally in Washington.
The patient is a female in her 20’s and has recovered and is self-isolating at home. Whitman County Public Health is working to identify anyone who may have an exposure risk because of contact with this person.
Local public health officials in Washington expect to find more positive cases in Whitman County as more people are tested. People most at risk are those who have traveled to an area of high community transmission and who have symptoms of cough, fever and shortness of breath. If you think you are at risk of exposure to coronavirus and are experiencing symptoms call ahead before you go to your healthcare provider, urgent care or the emergency department.
Otherwise public health officials are continuing to tell people to wash their hands, avoid touching your eyes, practice social distancing, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw that tissue in the trash and wash your hands. Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces and stay at home and away from others if you are sick.
There are no confirmed cases of coronavirus diagnosed locally in Idaho in the North Central District Of Idaho Public Health. That includes Latah County and Moscow.
