Idaho Department of Lands and North Idaho firefighters responded to over a dozen wildland fires on Saturday afternoon which started as controlled burns.
Two of those fires occurred in Latah County. The Latah County Sheriff’s Office reports that the first occurred on State Highway 99 South of Troy when a controlled burn blew out of control. The flames spread to a grain silo which was being used for storage.
The second blaze began when a slash pile blew out of control and torched about an acre on Watermill Road near Deary.
IDL is reminding people to check the weather forecast before burning, have a water source available and monitor burning until it’s out. Those responsible for these types of fires can be held liable for the cost of putting them out.
