Crews are starting to gain ground on the Long Hollow wildfire in Whitman County.
The blaze has torched about 4,000 acres of field and pasture in the Snake River Canyon West of Pullman below the Port of Almota. The fire was sparked by lightning during Wednesday’s thunderstorm. No structures have been lost and there are no injuries. Whitman County Fire District 13 Volunteers out of Onecho initially responded to the blaze. Several volunteer fire districts in Whitman County fought the fire overnight. Those volunteers have returned home. Crews from the State of Washington are now battling the fire. The blaze is no longer advancing but the fire is officially at 0% containment. Two helicopters are making water drops on the flames today. There are no evacuations or road closures in the fire zone.
