Fire at the only local homeless shelter displaces about a half a dozen people

A fire at the only local homeless shelter displaced about a half a dozen people early Monday morning.  Moscow Volunteer Firefighters were called to a blaze at the Sojourners Alliance on Van Buren Street around 12:30.  The fire was burning in the upstairs of a 2 story home used for transitional housing.  Flames burned in the living room, a hallway and into a kitchen and the ceiling before the fire was extinguished.  The fire also caused smoke damage throughout the home and some water damage downstairs.  One of the occupants suffered minor smoke inhalation and was taken by Moscow Police to Gritman Medical Center in Moscow.  No word on what sparked the fire.  Moscow fire investigators will return to the scene this morning.  About a half a dozen people living in the transitional housing unit were displaced and were put up for the night by the fire department with help from Latah County.  Moscow Volunteers were on scene for a couple of hours.
