Firefighters Stop Growth Of Wildfire In Snake River Canyon West Of Colton

Fire crews appear to stopped the growth of a 350 acre wildfire in the Snake River Canyon West Of Colton .

The fire started near Blyton Landing on the river around 2:45 Wednesday afternoon. Volunteer Firefighters from Whitman County Fire District 14 out of Colton/Uniontown initially responded. Other nearby departments were called in to assist. Aircraft helped fight the flames with water drops. Crews from other parts of Washington are being called in to relieve local volunteers.

The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office reports that firefighters appear to have stopped the fire’s growth.  Crews were on scene overnight to extinguish hot spots.  Deputies say a travel trailer park along Wawawai Road caught fire which ignited the wildland blaze.
