Former WSU Student Receives Maximum Jail Sentence For Secretly Recording Men In Campus Shower

The 20 year old former Washington State University student convicted of secretly taking videos of men inside a dorm shower and bathroom has received the maximum jail sentence.

Juan Velasco pleaded guilty in August to one count of felony voyeurism in Whitman County Superior Court.  Velasco was initially charged with three counts for using his phone to secretly record men in the 3rd floor bathroom of Stephenson South in April of last year.  The prosecutor’s office dropped two counts partly because two of the victims could not be identified.  One victim who was recorded in the shower was identified.

Judge Roger Sandberg agreed with the prosecutor’s request for the maximum sentence allowed by state law in this case.  Judge Sandberg sent Velasco to jail for 3 months, ordered that he undergo a psychosexual evaluation and register as a sex offender for 10 years.  The identified victim agreed with that sentencing recommendation.

Velasco has been living in Toppenish since he was suspended by WSU.  The case was investigating by the WSU PD.
