A 23-year-old Georgia man has been charged with several local felonies for allegedly trying to extort a Washington State University student for nude photos. Jordan Bowen of Newnan is charged with extortion and criminal impersonation charges in Whitman County Superior Court.
The case began in March of last year when a WSU student told campus police that someone tried to extort her online. She told WSU Police about receiving nude images of herself from an Instagram account. The person sending the images reportedly demanded more nudes or they would send the images to her friends and family.
The alleged victim told WSU Police that she had taken the pictures for an ex-boyfriend. The ex-boyfriend told officers that he never shared the images.
WSU Police tracked down the Instagram account to Bowen in Georgia. Officers there interviewed Bowen who reportedly admitted to the extortion and said that what he did was wrong. Court documents also show that he told police that he found the images on the dark web.
Authorities in Georgia reportedly found images of the victim along with child pornography on Bowen’s phone. Bowen was then arrested in Georgia on child porn charges in November.
The Atlanta Metro area man is now scheduled to appear in Whitman County Superior Court on the local charges next month.
