The latest harvest forecast for this year’s spring crops continue to show major declines from last year. The National Agricultural Statistics Service has released its harvest estimates based on September 1st conditions for lentils and garbanzo beans.
Washington’s lentil crop is expected to be down 39% compared to 2020. Idaho’s lentil production is predicted to be off 50% from last year.
Garbanzo bean production in Washington is forecast to drop significantly. The small chickpea harvest yield in the Evergreen State is predicted to be down over 70%. Idaho small chickpea yield is expected to come in nearly 60% below last year. The harvest of large chickpeas is forecast to down 42% in Washington and 24% in Idaho.
