The Port of Whitman County Commissioners are working on crafting a strategy to replace longtime Executive Director Joe Poire who is retiring at the end of next year.
Poire is retiring on New Year’s Eve of 2022 after 26 years at the port where he spent most of his time as executive director.
The port commissioners are meeting today to review a proposed transition plan. The port’s Chief Operating Officer Kara Riebold has been appointed interim executive director starting January 1st of next year. That appointment is currently set to run through June. During that time Riebold will work alongside Poire while he remains executive director. The commissioners will later determine if they want to appoint Riebold permanent port executive director or conduct an external search for new candidates.
The draft transition plan calls for promoting the port’s Finance Director Brenda Stav to chief operating officer starting January 1st of next year along with hiring a new finance director.
