Natural Gas Outage In Downtown Pullman

An Avista Utilities crew accidentally ruptured a natural gas line in downtown Pullman while conducting work for the Main Street reconstruction project.

The crew hit the line around 11:30 on Thursday morning knocking out natural gas to about 70 customers in downtown Pullman.  The Avista workers were moving lines for the project when the rupture occurred.  Crews had to purge the line to fix the leak which involved burning off some gas which produced a flame that was seen downtown.

Avista crews are working to re-light their downtown natural gas customers.  About half of downtown has natural gas back as of Friday morning.  The rupture did not lead to any evacuations.
