Palouse River flooding forecast downgraded slightly

The Palouse River is causing minor flooding Wednesday morning before an expected crest and then a higher flood Thursday.  The Palouse in Potlatch is at just under 16 feet Wednesday morning, flood stage is 15 feet.  The river is predicted to crest Wednesday morning and recede a before rising again Wednesday night and cresting at nearly 18 feet Thursday morning.  That would be a major flood for the City of Palouse.  The forecast on Tuesday was calling for a 19 foot crest.  The city is preparing by ordering 2 dump truck loads of sand and 4,000 sand bags which are now in town and ready to go.  If the Palouse reaches 18 feet it will be the worst flooding for that river in 20 years.
