University of Idaho football coach Paul Petrino and his staff will not return next season.
Vandal Athletics confirmed the report announcing Petrino’s departure in a statement late Thursday afternoon. Petrino has gone 33 and 66 during his 9 seasons leading the Vandals. His best year was in 2016 when he finished 9 and 4 and won the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
Petrino’s tenure at the UI included the Vandals move down from the FBS division to FCS and returned to the Big Sky. Petrino has a 10 and 19 conference record in the Big Sky.
UI Athletics will begin a national search for their next football coach.
Petrino’s last game coaching the Vandals will be Saturday at Idaho State.
Vandal Athletics will hold a press conference later today about the coaching change.
