Port Of Whitman County Commissioners Meeting Today To Discuss Their Controversial Plan For An Industrial Research Park In Pullman

The Port of Whitman County Commissioners will be discussing their controversial plan to develop an industrial research park in Pullman during a special meeting today.

The board has continued with its rezone request to the city for the proposed development.  The project’s anchor tenant AgTech OS pulled out of the project due to strong opposition from many Pullman residents.  The previous plan called for the port and AgTech OS to partner on a biodiesel plant for the park.  The company is now looking for another site on the Palouse for their proposed facility.  Today’s meeting will be the first time the port commissioners have met since AgTech OS decided to end its agreement with the local government agency.

AgTech OS’s decision to pull out of the project means the State of Washington’s loan to the port for the land for the park is no longer available.  The port commissioners have agreed to buy land near the Whispering Hills subdivision for 3.8 million dollars.  The state department of commerce had loaned the port 5 million dollars to buy the land.  Port officials say the board will be discussing other possible state funding sources for the property during today’s meeting.  The port must buy the land if the city approves the rezone.

The Port of Whitman County Commissioners will be meeting at 4:30 today in their office in Colfax.  The meeting will also be online.  There are two opportunities for public comment during today’s meeting.  Citizens can speak to the board remotely online.  You can find a link for the meeting here https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86590903284
