As previously reported on Pullman Radio, The Port of Whitman County received a $1 million grant to construct broadband internet.
The Washington State Broadband grant will pay for the last mile of fiber network in Steptoe and Diamond.
The project will bring Gig-speed broadband access to approximately 143 homes and businesses. It will also connect the Steptoe School District, Whitman County Fire District #11, Steptoe Grange Hall, and Steptoe Post Office.
The estimated total cost of the project is $1.3 million. St. John Telephone Company will provide a $267,000 grant match.
Construction is set to begin on or before June of this year and conclude by December of 2023.
