A final decision about raising Pullman’s sales tax rate to help pay for transportation projects is scheduled for Tuesday night.
Pullman City Councilmembers will consider increasing the sales tax rate by 0.1% during the meeting. The council will be acting as the Transportation Benefit District Board. Council created the taxing district which is the same as the city’s boundaries. The TBD was created by council in April of last year. The district can raise the sales tax rate to generate money for transportation and street projects. If approved it would raise the sales tax rate in Pullman to 8%. That hike would generate about a half a million dollars a year for transportation projects and street work in the city. The increased sales tax rate would start January 1st.
Tuesday night’s Pullman City Council/Transportation Benefit District Board meeting starts at 7:00 in city hall.
