Pullman resident Mary Schweitzer has donated 100,000 dollars to help pay for the restoration of Pullman’s old Northern Pacific Railroad depot into a museum.
The 1916 depot is now the Pullman Depot Heritage Center owned by the Whitman County Historical Society. Schweitzer’s gift is going toward the Fix the Bricks campaign to restore the outside the building. Her donation is the largest so far for the campaign which has raised 118,000 dollars from over 50 donors.
Schweitzer has been a dedicated supporter of the depot museum since its inception 2 years ago. She has been acting as an honorary co-chair for fundraiser efforts.
Exterior renovations of the depot will begin next Summer. Money raised will be used to match a roughly quarter-million-dollar grant from the State of Washington. The renovations to the outside of the depot are expected to cost 400,000 dollars.
