The Gladish Community and Cultural Center in Pullman is in dire financial crisis and officials at the nonprofit are making an urgent call for donations to stay open.
The old Pullman High School Building is the home for many nonprofits and events. According to a Friday press release from Gladish officials, the financial crisis is caused by last spring’s closure of Pullman Community Montessori. The Washington Charter School Commission closed the school for violating its charter with the state. The loss of revenue from the closure of the charter school is leading to the possibility of the Gladish closing.
The Gladish is home to several nonprofits including Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse, Montessori School of Pullman, Washington Idaho Symphony, Community Band of the Palouse, Whitman County Historical Society, American Legion and the Gladish Players. The facility also provides meeting space for the Pullman Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, Red Cross and the Moose Lodge.
In response to the financial crisis, Gladish officials have postponed the remodeling project to create the Centre for the Arts.
