Summer road construction season gets underway Monday

The summer road construction season is upon us.  The Washington Department of Transportation will be shutting down the US Highway 195 bridge on the North end of Colfax Monday.  Crews will repair the bridge piers on the span over the Palouse River.  Traffic will be detoured to the adjacent State Route 26 bridge.  The closure will be between six in the morning and four in the afternoon and run through Thursday.

Meanwhile on the Washington State University campus one lane of Stadium Way will be closed starting Monday near Main Street.  The right lane closure heading down the hill will run through Tuesday.  The closure will allow crews to begin work on the new Floyd Cultural Center.  And we incorrectly reported that Campus Street at WSU was closing for the rest of the month starting this week.  That work actually starts Monday.  So Campus Street near the old Bookie building will be shut down to traffic through Memorial Day.  The closure will allow crews to begin remodeling the old Bookie into the new Chinook Student Center.

In Idaho work is underway to upgrade the deck on a State Highway 6 bridge over the Palouse River in North Latah County.  The project is for the bridge closest to Harvard.  That works should be complete by the 24th.
