Thanksgiving Travel Expected To Exceed Pre-pandemic Levels

AAA is expecting travel to exceed pre-pandemic numbers with over 53 million Americans predicted to travel this Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

In Western Washington the organization is predicting that I-5 in Seattle and Tacoma will see the most traffic.  AAA expects travel times in Seattle and Tacoma on I-5 to be three and a half times longer than normal on Wednesday.

The Washington State Department of Transportation is reminding motorists to be prepared for more snow on the highways this Winter.  WSDOT is dealing with a shortage of snowplow drivers partly caused by Governor Jay Inslee’s vaccine mandate for most state workers.  WSDOT is also expecting heavy traffic on I-90 Snoqualmie Pass on Thursday and Friday because of the Apple Cup football game.  Cayuse Pass, Chinook Pass and the North Cascades Highway are all closed for the season.

Motorists can receive text alerts for Snoqualmie Pass delays of 30 minutes or longer by texting WSDOT Snoqualmie to 468311.  Washington highway updates can be found on the WSDOT website or the WSDOT app.

In Idaho the latest highway conditions can be found by visiting 511 Idaho online or by downloading the Idaho 511 app.
