Two Washington State University students have contracted whooping cough leading to a health alert from Whitman County.
Whitman County Public Health believes there is additional whooping cough circulating in the area. The agency is asking the public to get vaccinated for pertussis, wash your hands often and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.
Infants are the most at risk to whooping cough. The press release from Whitman County Public Health Director Chris Skidmore states that “pregnant people” are also at a high risk.
Pertussis starts with cold like symptoms and develops into a bad cough.
