University of Idaho announces endowed professorship in potato research

The University of Idaho has received a $1 million investment to create an endowed research professorship.

The honor from Wayne and Peggy Thiessen and the Idaho Potato Commission will benefit the university’s efforts to improve potato storage technology.

The Idaho Potato Commission voted in January to support the professorship, following a trend of investment in potato research at the U of I.

The endowment establishes a new faculty member in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. This new position will focus on potato storage physiology, creating support for Idaho potato growers, processors, and shippers.

The endowment will also support research needs and provide funding to graduate students.
