University of Idaho Enacts its Yearly Evergreen Protection Program

The University of Idaho (U of I) is enacting its yearly evergreen protection program. The university will spray about 100 trees on campus with a natural repellent of skunk scent, fox urine, and a sticking agent to protect the trees from theft and destruction during the holiday season. The repellent is harmless to the trees and is very undetectable while outdoors in colder temperatures, but quickly becomes volatile in warmer areas and emits a pungent odor. Some trees on campus will have signs warning of the spray, and others will not.

It’s our job to help keep the U of I campus safe, and if you get any knowledge about tree thefts, please call the Moscow police immediately at 208-882-2677.
