Expanded alcohol sales for Washington State University home football games will continue this season.
The Washington Liquor and Cannabis Board on Tuesday morning unanimously approved a one year extension of the pilot program. That vote allows alcohol sales throughout most of Martin Stadium to continue this season.
Expanded alcohol sales were first introduced last season. Prior to that beer and wine was only available to fans in the club seats and suits on the south side of Gesa Field. Alcohol sales are not available in the student section.
The alcohol free zones is being expanded for this season. There will be no beer and wines sales on the entire North side of the stadium and the adjacent concourses.
The agency’s staff did find some areas that need to be improved following last season’s first year of the pilot program. WSU Athletics and their stadium vendor Aramark are addressing those issues with more staff training, updating student conduct code and improving outreach and education to students.
If all goes well this season the board will consider moving WSU home football game expanded alcohol sales from a pilot program to a more permanent status. The Cougars open the home football season on Saturday September 19th against Duquesne.
