The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is exploring possibly buying a pond in Whitman County that’s open to the public for fishing.
The agency is examining a proposal to buy Pampa Pond on State Route 26 near LaCrosse. It’s part of fish and wildlife’s annual program to review potential land purchases to preserve outdoor recreational sites.
The department is looking at potentially buying 30 acres for Pampa Pond. Documents released by state officials don’t indicate who currently owns the site. It is a man-made pond that opens early for fishing annually on March 1st.
Agency officials are accepting public comment about the state possibly buying Pampa Pond. The public comment period runs through November 26th. Comments need to be emailed to lands@dfw.wa.gov If the plan moves ahead WDFW will seek grant funding to try to buy the property.
