Whitman County has been added to Governor Bob Ferguson’s wildfire emergency proclamation.
The governor amended the proclamation to add Whitman and four other counties following wildfires across Washington.
The action makes people in Whitman County impacted by wildfires eligible for additional state assistance and protections. That includes cash assistance for immediate needs such as food, temporary housing and other expenses.
The proclamation makes anyone who lost their home to a wildfire eligible for the assistance regardless of income or insurance coverage.
Whitman County joins 11 other Washington counties and three Tribal Nations covered by the wildfire emergency.
The statewide ban on most outdoor and agricultural burning also remains in effect through Sept. 30.
