The Whitman County Commissioners have agreed to buy two office suites in Pullman to resolve compliance issues with the current public health office.
Whitman County Public Health’s office in Pullman is non-compliant with several ADA requirements. The county commissioners report that renovating the office to comply with the federal regulations would cost millions of dollars.
The board has been looking for a new home for public health in Pullman and have settled on office space in the same business park. The commissioners unanimously agreed during their meeting Monday to buy two suites in the Pro Mall II on Bishop Boulevard for public health. The county is spending about 700,000 dollars to buy the space which is three times larger than the current public health office in the same park. The board is using economic development funds to pay for the property which comes from a portion of the county’s sales tax collections. Public health is expected to move into their new Pullman office in the spring. Whitman County will be selling the old suite that was no longer suitable for public health.
