45 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Whitman County over the weekend and on Monday.
41 of those new cases are Washington State University students. WSU reports that active coronavirus cases at the institution have dropped to 87 from Friday’s high of 106. The positivity rate for coronavirus testing at WSU has also dropped from Friday’s high of 7.4% down to 6.5%. Whitman County Public Health reported one new coronavirus hospitalization.
The coronavirus activity level in Whitman County has increased to 441 cases per 100,000 people. There were 221 cases new cases in Whitman County over the past 2 weeks which keeps the county in the coronavirus activity level high range. Local officials expect Washington Governor Jay Inslee to move Whitman County back to heavier pandemic restrictions a week from today. That’s when state officials will determine which counties are complying with his reopening plan mandates which require moderate to low activity levels to stay under his phase 3 restrictions.
