Whitman County Improving Fairgrounds Near Colfax

Whitman County is moving forward with improvements at the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds near Colfax.

The project will add approximately 35 camping spaces at the Hugh Huntley Campground and replace an aging water line serving the animal barns. The work is being funded through the county’s “.09” economic development funds, which are set aside for public infrastructure projects that support economic development. A press release from fair officials did not announce how much money the project costs.

County officials estimate the annual Palouse Empire Fair generates more than $7 million in economic activity for the local economy.

Construction began Sept. 14 and is expected to be completed by Nov. 30.
