Two homes and a shop were destroyed in a wildfire in the City of Colfax late this morning.
The fire started in the Scenic View Drive area of just West of downtown and quickly destroyed a home and a shop there. Strong winds sent flames racing to the South and up Hospital Hill into the Cromwell Street area where a home there caught fire. Other homes in the neighborhood sustained exterior damage. No one was hurt no word yet on what caused the fire. The evacuation orders for the neighborhood around the fire have been lifted. Fire crews will be staying on scene overnight to ensure the blaze it out. Several units from Spokane County responded to the blaze inside the City of Colfax.
Crews from nearly every Volunteer Fire District in Whitman County had been called into to assist with this fire in Colfax and a large wildfire that was burning just Northwest of town. Those units were fighting fire in and around Colfax when the Babb Road fire started around Noon which mostly destroyed the Town of Malden a few hours later.
