WSU College Of Arts And Sciences Dean Resigns For Same Job At San Diego State

Another administrator at Washington State University is leaving.

College of Arts and Sciences Dean Todd Butler announced his resignation Wednesday after just a few years on the job.  Butler has been hired to be the next College of Arts and Letters Dean at San Diego State University.  He begins his new job on July 1st.  Butler was interim dean for a few months before being hired as permanent dean of WSU CAS in 2021.

WSU Provost Elizabeth Chilton has appointed Courtney Meehan interim dean of the college.  Meehan was hired for a two year interim term.  She has worked as the college’s associate dean for research and graduate studies since 2018.

The provost’s office will launch a national search for a new permanent dean in August of next year.

Butler’s resignation is the latest in a string of administrator departures at WSU.  President Kirk Schulz announced his retirement on Friday.  Cougar Athletics Director Pat Chun left for the same job at the University of Washington last month.
