Washington State University has released a statement regarding the increase in coronavirus cases on campus.
In a post on the institution’s website, WSU reports 189 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed on the Pullman campus over the past 2 weeks. 171 of those are students. The statement says, “The risk to the Pullman community is considered low.” The post also states that WSU has initiated “aggressive efforts” to contain the recent increase in campus coronavirus activity.
WSU students are in Pullman studying online this Spring semester. An outbreak among WSU students occurred last Fall when they returned to Pullman to study online. That outbreak prompted the Washington National Guard to deploy to Pullman to test students. The troops left at the end of the year.
There have been 49 new cases of coronavirus reported at WSU since Tuesday. All of the new cases are students. There are 90 active coronavirus cases on campus which is 29 more than what WSU reported on Tuesday. 84 of those active cases are students.
There have been 2,297 confirmed cases of coronavirus at WSU since last Fall. 2,129 of them have been students.
