WSU Student Charged For Allegedly Raping Female Student On Campus

A Washington State University student has been charged for allegedly raping a female student on campus last spring.

25 year old Erick Leal has been charged with felony 2nd degree rape in Whitman County Superior Court.  The victim went to Pullman Regional Hospital which reported the rape to WSU Police.  The victim told officers that she and Leal were drinking at his campus apartment on April 17th when she was raped.  She told investigators that she passed out and woke up to Leal sexually assaulting her.  According to court documents the woman told police that she told Leal several times that she was not going to have sex with him.  Leal allegedly hand his hand on the women’s throat and she thought she was going to die.

Court documents alleged that Leal admitted to the rape during a phone call with the woman that was recorded by police.  WSU Officers received Whitman County Superior Court authorization to record the call.  Leal told police that the sex was consensual.

Leal is scheduled to make his first appearance in Whitman County Superior Court on the 19th.
