Former WSU Student Arrested On Rape And Burglary Charges For Allegedly Sexually Assaulting Woman In Pullman

A former Washington State University student has been arrested for rape and burglary for allegedly sexually assaulting a female student at her Pullman residence.

20 year old Elijah Nivar of Bonney Lake was recently arrested in Western Washington on a Pullman Police Department warrant and transported back to Whitman County.  According to Whitman County Superior Court Documents, the victim told Pullman Detectives that in early May Nivar forced his way into her home and choked and raped her.  The woman underwent a rape examination at Pullman Regional Hospital.  The alleged victim and Nivar had a previous relationship that ended in November of 2020.

Nivar was released on his own recognizance during his first court appearance in Colfax on Thursday.  The prosecutor’s office asked that he be held on 50,000 dollars bond.  Nivar’s attorney told Judge Gary Libey that Nivar has no criminal convictions and that he would be living with his mother in Bonney Lake.  Nivar’s mother told Judge Libey that she would ensure that he follows all pre-trial release conditions and that he would show up to court.  Judge Libey agreed with the defense and released Nivar from jail without bond.

Nivar is scheduled to be back in court on Monday if charges have been formally charged by then.  If he is charged and convicted of 1st degree rape Nivar could be sentenced to life in prison.  He was arrested for felony 1st degree rape and 1st degree burglary.
