Laird Park & Giant White Pine Campgrounds Near Harvard Reopened After Being Closed Because Of Sand Mountain Fire

The U.S. Forest Service campgrounds near the Sand Mountain Fire in North Latah County are back open.

Laird Park and the Giant White Pine Campground near Harvard have reopened.  The Bald Mountain Lookout is also open again.  Roads and trails closer to the fire remain closed.  The blaze is still at 58% containment around 1,500 acres.

The Johnson Creek Fire North of Elk River remains at 52% containment at around 1,200 acres.  Roads and trails closest to the blaze are still closed.  The public is reminded to adhere to all posted signs and barricades in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest.

The fires were sparked by lightning on July 7th.
