WSU Ends Traditional Bonfire Homecoming Pep Rally

The traditional homecoming bonfire pep rally at Washington State University has come to an end.

The WSU Alumni Association’s Executive Director Mariah Maki says that fire restrictions have led to the group ending the traditional bonfire.  WSU banned wood burning on campus permanently in the fall of 2021.  Periodic campus burn bans over the years during dry falls prevented some homecoming bonfires.  The bonfire has also been lit with special permission during burn bans.

The association has replaced the traditional Friday night homecoming bonfire pep rally with an event on the Lewis Alumni Centre lawn.
