The University of Idaho has received two national recognitions for its sustainability efforts.
U of I is one of the first 14 institutions to earn the new Carnegie Elective Classification for Sustainability. The university was also named a Top Performer in Curriculum in the 2026 Sustainable Campus Index, earning a 100% curriculum score. U of I was one of 20 colleges and universities that participated in a pilot program to help develop and test the new Carnegie sustainability classification before its national launch. The university will retain the classification through 2033.
The Sustainable Campus Index recognition considers sustainability-related courses, academic programs, hands-on learning and assessments of student learning.
